Background

For the past several years I've worked in Title I schools with young information hounds, and my role has been primarily to introduce the concept of facts/information using our district and state databases. I trust these as credible sites but we discuss how to vet information using multiple sources of information. My biggest concern is developing enough background knowledge for our students to be literate in many areas. The lack of social studies instruction and emphasis on high stakes testing has resulted in many students having little to no foundational/basic knowledge to make informed choices. I am teaching more than ever before as common ground is shifty, not solid.

Hi Robin:

What a concept -- common ground is shifty! What strategies do you have for keeping up so the students continue to find your teaching relevant to them?
